课程简介
In the current software application ecosystem, there is an increasing dependency on the cloud providers as more companies move from on-prem data center solutions to the cloud. This adds some risk of downtime, latency and glitches that impact revenue. Chaos engineering is an emerging discipline that all companies must practice to ensure that end-users of their products do not get affected due to cloud issues. Using case studies from Netflix and Walmart, we will share how you can set up a chaos engineering practice in your own organization and how you can begin running chaos tests. We will also share templates of the simplest tests that can be run to start on your chaos journey.
目标收益
Chaos engineering ROI is massive. If you calculate the loss that results from a single incident, in many cases it is in the millions. If there is 5 incidents per year – you are wasting 5 million a year. Instead, form a chaos program team with 5-7 good engineers and reduce the number of incidents in production to 0.

课程内容
Purpose of this case is to explain the basis and importance of chaos engineering and how it can prevent revenue loss and impact to your company during cloud service outages. How? We will demonstrate how to set up and run chaos exercises in your company. We will also share information on how chaos engineering teams at Walmart is structured and the learnings from it. We will then learn and understand how to cause key infrastructure failures and dependency failures by using simple command line tools. We will also dig deep into the practices of chaos engineering and how a chaos engineering team should be leading the way in ensuring that the application ecosystem should be tested by injecting chaos as often as possible. We will also discuss the processes to debug during a chaos test failure, learn how to triage quickly, and how controlled chaos can be injected as early as the continuous integration pipeline. The expected target is the development teams at any company, the operations teams and the SRE teams.
